Future Generations will Abhor Us.

Slavery lasted for so long because of how many people just accepted it. People were raised to believe that there was an inherent superiority of white people over black people, and that’s what justified the servitude.

No, I’m not making this shit up.

Eventually, through a combination of common sense and economics, we realized how terrible it was. And we look back on it now with disgust.

How could we have ever believed such a thing?

We will someday do the same with abortion. How do I know?

Because logic.

Allow me to explain:

We have no idea what life is. That’s an important part of this. We can quantify the chemicals in our brains and we can track the flow of blood through our heart and we can sit and discuss the nature of existence while snorting cocaine (I mean not ME, but you can if you want. Just holla at ya boy).

We have no idea what it is that gives us that capability.

Something, somewhere, transforms us from a walking bag of fluids, bone and nerves into an entity which can question the nature of our very existence.

I mean, that’s a big deal.

It’s why those questions have always been around: what is the meaning of life, why are we here, etc. (PS- the answer is usually beer)

Even today, in an age of such incredible technological advancement- we still have no clue.

And the reason is that once you start investigating what specifically defines a person as “alive”, you’ll quickly exhaust the scientific data and move into philosophy before you know it.

What makes a person alive? Consciousness? Ok- so what about when you sleep?

Yeah, but we know you’re alive because if I dump some water on you that sleep will disappear and you’ll be alive again.

So…failure to respond to stimuli? But what about people in a coma?

Yeah but they still have brain function, right?

So…no brain function in a coma. So brain function? That’s what we’re using?

If that’s the marker, the brain starts to develop four weeks after conception. That’s before some women even know they’re pregnant.

There is no clear cut answer, and that’s my point.

Even the most intelligent minds in the world cannot agree on what the criteria is for defining something as “alive”. Computer viruses, bacteria, fetuses- all are in a gray area. Depending on how we define it, we may have already uncovered alien life on Mars.

No I’m not kidding.

So here’s the kicker: if we’re not sure where life begins, WHY NOT ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION.

If we aren’t sure there is brain activity in a coma patient, should we just assume there isn’t?

The only exceptions should be if the mother’s life is in danger because we KNOW she’s alive.

This is obviously a very contentious issue because it involves the legislation of someone’s body. That’s got a pretty bad history in America, so we should all be a little shy about it.

But if there’s even a 1% chance that a baby is alive, would you risk killing it?

So what’s the connection to slavery? That’s what you’re asking yourself, right?

Slavery was a state-sanctioned (and regulated) atrocity in the name of “state’s rights”.

Abortion is a state-sanctioned (and regulated) POTENTIAL atrocity in the name of women’s rights.

The mom is alive. We know that. We aren’t sure HOW, or exactly WHAT makes her alive, but we know it’s a fact the woman is alive.

Therefore if the “potential” life is threatening the CONFIRMED life, there is equally: no choice.

Err on the side of life.

But if the POTENTIAL life is not a danger to another’s life- there is absolutely no reason not to err on the side of caution.

To be EXTRA CAREFUL, just in case.

Because we don’t know when life begins. That’s a FACT.

So if it’s a possibility that we are committing the worst mass murder of children that could ever be conceived of- shouldn’t we be worried?

What if we’re wrong?

What if YOU’RE WRONG?

This is the atrocity our generation will be condemned for.

This is why history will shake its heads at us.
