Abortion and Gun Rights are the Same Thing.

The argument against abortion is that the government should not have the ability to regulate a woman’s body.

The argument against gun control is that the government should not have the ability to regulate a citizen’s ability to defend themselves from harm or tyranny.

Making abortions illegal would essentially turn some women into “birth slaves”. (This may or may not be the plot of The Handmaiden’s Tale or whatever. People keep telling me to watch it but I don’t watch a lot of TV anymore.)

Now imagine a softer world, where abortion is illegal, with exceptions for cases of assault, incest or danger to the mother.

In this world, a woman is sexually assaulted, but can’t prove it.

So she’s unable to get an abortion, so she has to carry a child to term that will always be with her and ALWAYS remind her of the assault. And the child either gets to be adopted or grow up in that environment.

The argument for restricting abortion is that the government should not be in the business of requiring people to do things like that.

Making guns illegal puts all citizens at the mercy of criminals, with only their faith in the police or military to defend them. (Europe)

Now imagine a softer world, where guns are illegal to carry except if you are trained, licensed and agree to secure storage by separating ammunition from weapon.

In this world, a boy leaves a movie with his parents. A large man approaches them in the parking lot and tells the man to give him his wallet. The large man has no knife. No gun. The father hits him in the face, but the man has been hardened by crime. He crushes the father’s windpipe and the child watches as his father chokes to death. The woman screams.

The argument against restricting guns is that in a country founded on liberty and individual responsibility- the government should not be in the business of requiring people to do things like that.

There is a distinction to be made against a law that requires someone to do something with their own body against their will.

What abortion advocates don’t understand about gun advocates is that they see their personal liberty as an extension of their body. Indeed, to some- it may be MORE important than their bodies. Or safety for that matter.

Examine your values, not your positions.
